Marko Rajevac posted a thrilling three-set victory at the No. 6 flight of singles to clinch the match for the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team, defeating Wake Forest by a narrow 4-3 margin. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 6-3, 1-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference action while the Demon Deacons fall to 4-5, 0-1 in ACC play.
The Yellow Jackets opened the match winning the doubles point as the fifteenth ranked duo of Scott Schnugg and Marko Rajevac defeated Derrick Spice and Brett Ross, 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Tech then earned the point as at No. 2 doubles, Jason Pieters and West Nott teamed together to easily beat Todd Paul and Andrew Hamar, 8-3. In the final doubles match, Andrew Simpson and David Lowenthal outlasted Joao Menano and Zachary Rath, 9-8.
The Jackets then received singles victories from Schnugg, who defeated No. 35 Spice in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 1, Nott, who won at No. 3 over Hamar, 6-3, 7-6 and the final point of the afternoon from Rajevac. In other singles matches, Pieters fell at No. 2 singles to Paul, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3, Lowenthal defeated Menano in straight sets at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0, and Ross won over Rath, 7-6, 6-1.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Friday when they travel to face No. 60 Oregon in Eugene, Ore. beginning at 10 p.m. ET.
