ATLANTA (Jan. 15) — Georgia Tech’s men’s tennis team opened its indoor season Saturday with a 7-0 victory against Mercer at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The Yellow Jackets, NCAA Championship participants in ’99, didn’t drop a set on the day.
“Overall we played very well,” said head coach Kenny Thorne, who won 1999 ACC Coach of the Year honors after directing Tech to the finals of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament and a No. 32 ranking in the ITA final poll. “We had a slow start in doubles today, but finished each of our singles matches very strong. It was a good way to start the season.”
Tech won the doubles point after losing just seven games in three matches. Junior Romain Couralt (Paris, France) clinched the match for Tech with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles.
The Jackets are next in action February 3 when they host Middle Tennessee State at 2 p.m.
