THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (11-9, 2-4 ACC) continues conference play this weekend as they travel to No. 17 Florida State (12-5, 4-2 ACC) and No. 46 Miami (11-6, 2-4 ACC).
The Jackets will look to bounce back after two tough losses to ACC opponents, North Carolina and Duke. A highlight from last weekend was No. 34 Andres Martin’s victories over two ranked players in singles competition. He took down North Carolina’s No. 47 Brian Cernoch 6-4, 6-1 and defeated Duke’s No. 17 Garrett Johns in a 6-3, 6-2 decision.
Despite its minor setback, Tech has a lot of potential to be successful this weekend. Tech’s top singles player, Martin, is currently 15-4 in dual match play and 10-4 against nationally ranked opponents. Success this weekend will rely on Tech’s performances in doubles play. Last time out, the Jackets nearly claimed the doubles point against both top 20 ranked teams.
This weekend will provide some familiarity for the Jackets as they faced Florida State and Miami in several of their competitions during the fall season.
