ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team concluded a successful fall season at the ITA Region II tournament in Chapel Hill, N.C. After a strong performance on the tournament’s first day, the Yellow Jackets were eliminated from competition.
Tech sophomore Roger Anderson advanced to the third round of the main singles draw following his victory over fourth-seeded Luscan Xavier of Florida State, but fell to Duke’s Joel Spicher in straight sets 3-6, 1-6.
Yellow Jacket senior Sergio Aguirre was unable to advance past the second round on Saturday, as he was defeated by Pyung Koo Lee of Howard University in straight sets, 2-6, 3-6.
Tech’s final individual competitor, sophomore David Wright, was defeated by Virginia Commonwealth’s Florian Marquandt in straight sets 6-7, 4-6.
In doubles play, the Tech duo of Roger Anderson and David Wright won their second-round match against Wake Forest’s David Loewenthal and Raul Munoz by an 8-5 score. In the quarterfinals, Anderson and Wright were defeated by Duke’s Andres Pedroso and Ted Rueger by an 8-6 count.
