BLACKSBURG, Va. – On day one of the 2011 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships, multi-eventer Kayla McKeirnan set a new school record in the pentathlon, finishing the event in fourth place with a total of 3,691 points.
Her score this year bested that of Lauren Reimer who set the school record of 3,659 points in 2004.
Also competing on the day was Monique Pate who finished 11th in the event with a total score of 3,204 points.
McKeirnan bested all of her season bests in each of the five events, except for the long jump. In the 60 meter hurdles, she cut nearly two-tenths of a second off of her time finishing in 8.87 seconds. The senior added .01m to her high jump best, .13m to the distance on her shot put throw, and cut over 13 seconds off of her 800m run time.
Pate had season bests in three of the five events, knocking one-tenth of a second off of her 60m hurdles time, setting a season best in the high jump or 1.56m and cutting five seconds off of her 800m run time. Pate finished with a throw of 10.31m in the shot put and launched herself 4.86m in the long jump.
The rest of the Jackets will get started at the ACC meet on Friday, as the day kicks off with the men’s high jump at Noon.
