Matthews Wins Triple Jump at U.S. Junior Nationals

CLOVIS, Calif. – Georgia Tech freshman Bria Matthews completed the sweep on Sunday, as she was able to win the triple jump at the USATF Junior Nationals a day after winning the long jump. Her leap of 13.16m (43-2.25) earned her a spot in the World Junior Championships, which take place July 19-24 in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

“It was another great day for Bria to get the win and the opportunity to compete at the World U20 Championships in the triple as well as the long jump,” head women’s coach Alan Drosky said. “And Amy Ruiz raced very well to get 10th in the 1500m. We’re proud of both women and impressed with their mental toughness. It was 100° out, and on the track it was hotter than that.”

Ruiz competed in the 1500m for the Jackets on Sunday, finishing 10th in the finals with a time of 4:38.27.
