Massey, Lapsley, and Phillips Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Eric Massey, Andriane Lapsley, and April Phillips were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, January 23, 2006.

Massey, a senior from Gainesville, Fla., led the Yellow Jackets to a third-place finish at the Clemson Invitational last Friday and Saturday. Massey broke the Georgia Tech indoor school record in the weight throw with a personal-record throw of 61 feet, 5 3/4 inches.

Lapsley, a senior from San Antonio, Texas, tallied four top-five finishes for the Yellow Jackets at the Clemson Invitational last Friday and Saturday. Lapsley, finished fourth in the women’s 60-meter dash and 60-meter high hurdles with times of 7.55 and 8.60, respectively. She posted an indoor season-best mark of 40 feet, 7 ¾ inches, to finish fourth in the triple jump and clocked a time of 24.87 in the 200-meter dash to finish fifth.

Phillips, a freshman from Long Beach, Calif., came off the bench to average 7.5 points and four rebounds per game against UNC and Wake Forest. She had a breakout game against Wake, scoring a season-high 11 points against the Demon Deacons. Phillips shot 67 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free-throw line for the week.
