Makinson Named ACC Co-Performer of the Week

Nov. 9, 2010

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore diver Brandon Makinson has been named ACC men’s Co-Performer of the Week alongside North Carolina senior Tommy Wyher after his outstanding showing in Georgia Tech’s tri-meet with Georgia and Emory and dual meet with Clemson. The award was the first of Makinson’s career at Tech.

“I am very happy for Brandon to earn this award so early in the season,” said head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. “He has worked very hard this year in less than ideal circumstances with our diving well being under construction for most of this semester.”

The Alberta, Canada native swept the diving events for the third time in three meets this season. His marks improved each meet culminating in a personal best, near school record, and NCAA qualifying score in both the one (345.67) and three-meter (391.20) dives at Clemson on Friday, November 5.

Makinson began the week with victories in the one and three-meter dives in a tri-meet against Georgia and Emory. The sophomore’s score of 335.65 in the one-meter was a personal best, while also notching 376.60 points in the three-meter dive.

With each of his scores this week, Makinson improved upon his NCAA qualifying mark.
