Sophomore Nisha Kurian finished 19th overall at the Florida State Invitational to lead the women to a third place finish in their second meet of the season. The men were also led by a sophomore, Nazar Trilisky, who completed the 8K race in a time of 26:09.70 and placed 18th overall. The women’s squad scored 120 points and the men had 169 while hosts Florida State took the men’s and women’s titles with 33 and 26 points, respectively.
Kurian’s time of 18:47.72 in the 5K race enabled her to edge out fellow Tech runner Mary Chind (20th overall) who had a time 18:49.35. Elena Linn had another strong showing for the Jackets, finishing third among Tech runners and placing 25th overall. Other Tech runners finishing in the top 50 for the women were a pair of sophomores in Maria Hampton (34th) and Emily Yandle (38th), and juniors Misty Dirksen (43rd) and Ann Armsby (45th).
Trilisky followed his sixth place finish at last week’s Mercer Cross Country Meet with another strong performance in Tallahassee as he was one of five Jackets to finish in the top 50 overall. Joining him were sophomores Paul Specht (36th) and David Herren (49th), and the freshmen duo of Greg Johnson (45th) and Matt Kinsel (50th).
The Jackets travel to South Bend, Ind. in two weeks to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational.
