GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech sophomore Kristen Adkins has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week the league office announced Monday. This is the second time in the last three weeks that the McKinney, Texas, native has won the award. This week, she shares the honors with Lindsay Campana of NC State.
Adkins began the weekend with a five-hit shutout of the 12th-ranked Tar Heels on Saturday. She walked two and struck out four en route to her fifth solo shutout of the season. Adkins also helped her own cause with a two-out, two-run home run that cleared the scoreboard in left-center field in the fourth inning breaking the scoreless tie. She then won her 20th game of the season in Sunday’s series finale by holding UNC to two runs on four hits.
Adkins and the Yellow Jackets will close out the regular season this weekend with a three-game series at Maryland. Tech needs two wins to clinch its second ACC regular season title in program history (2005) and claim the No. 1 seed in next week’s ACC Tournament. The Jackets and Terps will play a doubleheader on Saturday, May 2 at 1 p.m. and then wrap up the regular season with a single game Sunday, May 3, at 1 p.m. Live audio and stats for all three games can be found at www.ramblinwreck.com.
