Jose Muguruza begins play in NCAA Singles Championship Wednesday

Jose Muguruza, a sophomore on the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team, will begin the NCAA Individual Singles Championship by facing Bojan Szumanski of Texas Tech Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.

Muguruza, ranked 22nd in the nation in the latest ITA rankings has never faced Szumanski in his career.

In addition to Muguruza, freshman David North and junior Marko Rajevac were selected as alternates for the NCAA Doubles Championship which begins Thursday. North and Rajevac, ranked No. 38 in the latest ITA doubles poll, will discover their opponents and match time on Wednesday. They are the first doubles team since 1994 to compete in the NCAA Doubles Championship for Georgia Tech.
