ATLANTA–Calvin Johnson, Georgia Tech’s sensational freshman wide receiver, was named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for the third time this season after the Yellow Jackets’ 30-10 win over Connecticut.
The 6-4, 225-pounder had six catches for a season-best 131 yards against the Huskies. In doing so, he set the Tech freshman record for receiving yards in a season.
Johnson now has 36 catches for 624 yards on the season, ranking second in the ACC in receiving yards per game and third in receptions per game. His six touchdown catches are second in the league.
The only ACC freshman ever to record more receiving yards in a season was NC State’s Koren Robinson with 853 in 1999.
Johnson also won the Rookie of the Week Award following Tech’s wins over Clemson and Duke.
