THE FLATS — Georgia Tech football displayed its spring preparation under the lights on Thursday night as the Yellow Jackets hosted its 2022 Spring Game at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
For the first hour, the Jackets showcased normal practice drills for the audience in the stands and the audience in the south end zone St. Patty’s Day tailgate. Student-athletes performed a variety of position-specific training, 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 set pieces to preview the second half of the Spring Game event.
Once in the full-on scrimmage, multiple Yellow Jackets shined during the alternating drives toward the north endzone and Georgia Tech band.
Offensively, Dontae Smith, Hassan Hall and true freshman Antonio Martin all led the ground attack for Georgia Tech, while quarterbacks Jeff Sims, Zach Gibson and Brody Rhodes took turns leading the air attack to a host of wideouts highlighted by Malachi Carter, Kalani Norris, D.J. Moore and Jamal Haynes — Moore and Haynes both hauling in touchdowns on the night.
Demetrius Knight II and Charlie Thomas both shined on the defensive side, while Kenyatta Watson hauled in an interception.
In special teams, Gavin Stewart and Jude Kelly both kicked field goals Stewart connecting from 29 and 44 yards out and Kelly converting from 23, 29 and 30.
