THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s swimming and diving ended day one of the 2017 ACC Championships on Monday night with two new school records and in sixth-place overall with 122 points after just three events – the 3-meter dive, the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay.

“I’m very happy with the way we started off,” said head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. “I thought it was a great 200 medley, breaking the school record and moving up a couple spots. I thought we did a good job at the 800 freestyle relay. Obviously it was fun watching Rodrigo [Correia] break the school record leading off with the 200 freestyle. I’m looking forward to getting back to racing tomorrow morning and we know that we need to get it done in the morning. We have to get in places to score at night.”

In the first event of the day, the Jacket relay unit ofRodrigo Quadros Correia, Moises Loschi, Ben Southern and Noah Harasz set a new school record in the 200 medley relay with an NCAA ‘B’ time of 1:25.76 to place seventh-overall.

Correia went on to break the Tech record in the 200 free with his lead-off time of 1:34.25 in the 800 free relay, in which the sophomore along withColt Williamson, Loschi and Dan Cohen Solal touched the wall ninth overall with a time of 6:26.80.

The 122 points also includes the men’s 3-meter dive, in which Matt Casillas placed seventh overall (315.30) to score 23 points and Omar Eteiba took 14th (315.15) to pick up 13 points for the team scoring.

The meet will continue with the prelims set to begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET. The finals are slated to begin at 6 p.m. ET.
