ATLANTA – The Yellow Jacket women’s tennis team will begin their 2006-07 campaign by sending four players to the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, which begins this weekend in Los Angeles, Calif.
Representing the Yellow Jackets will be second-ranked Kristi Miller, who begins play in the main draw, No. 54 Alison Silverio and No. 74 Tarryn Rudman, who start singles play in the qualifying draw, and rookie Kirsten Flower, beginning this Saturday in the prequalifying bracket.
Miller and Silverio, ranked No. 20 in the nation in the preseason doubles rankings, will also team together in the qualifying draw, as will the tandem of Rudman and Flower.
The Riviera/ITA All-American Championships is the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national and singles and doubles championships of the season and is one of three national collegiate championships of the collegiate tennis season. The premier hard court event of the fall collegiate season, the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships feature the top players in NCAA Division I tennis.
The Oct. 5-8 main draw is preceded by two sets of qualifying tournaments. The 64-player, 32 doubles team prequalifying tournament is Sept. 31-Oct. 1 at UCLA and eight players and four doubles teams will advance from there to the Oct. 3-4 64-player qualifying tournament at Riviera (where eight players and four doubles teams will advance to the main draw).
