LEXINGTON, Ky. – Georgia Tech volleyball (4-1) has been ranked No. 21 in the latest AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Women’s Poll, the AVCA announced on Monday. The Jackets were previously ranked No. 16 after flying up eight spots from their preseason ranking of No. 24, the highest jump inside the rankings within a week in program history.
Since appearing in the Top 25 at No. 12 on Sept. 30, 2020, Georgia Tech has been listed in 25 straight top 25 polls to date. The Yellow Jackets are joined in the poll by No. 4 Pitt and No. 10 Louisville among the ACC ranks.
Tech earns the 21st slot after splitting a pair of matches at the Long Beach State Tournament, downing Long Beach State before falling to No. 18 UCLA as junior outside hitter Julia Bergmann and senior right-side hitter Mariana Brambilla were each tabbed all-tournament.
Georgia Tech opened its 2021 slate in flawless fashion, topping No. 18 Penn State (previously 12), UCF and St. John’s on the way to a UCF Challenge title. The Jackets also racked up individual awards as Bergmann was awarded AVCA Player of the Week, ACC Player of the Week and UCF Challenge MVP while freshman outside hitter Bianca Bertolino was named ACC Freshman of the Week and to the UCF Challenge all-tournament team along with Brambilla.
Bergmann has led the Jacket attack on the season, piling up 83 kills (4.37 per set), 56 digs, eight service aces and 11 total blocks (seven solo, four assisted).
