Jackets Push No. 3 Seminoles to the Brink

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball (15-8, 0-6 ACC) took No. 3 Florida State (23-1, 5-1 ACC) down to the wire, falling 3-2 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Mewborn Field. The Yellow Jackets took their first lead of the series by scoring a pair of runs in the second, but surrendered two more scores in the following inning and were unable to even the tally.

Freshman center fielder Ella Edgmon had the most impactful swing for the Jackets, cracking a two-RBI single off the right-field wall to put the Jackets on top as she went 1-for-2 in the contest. Sophomore third baseman Mallorie Black, meanwhile, had the most productive day at the dish, going 3-for-4.

In the circle, junior hurler Chandler Dennis was lights out as she tossed the final four innings allowing no runs on three hits

Florida State got going early, scoring a run in the opening frame on an RBI single. Tech then responded with a two-out rally in the bottom of the second as Edgmon followed a pair of walks by lacing her two-RBI single off the wall to score freshmen Grace Connelly and Auburn Dupree for a 2-1 advantage. The Seminoles took back the lead in the top of the third, knocking a two-run home run to jump back in front, 3-2. Both pitchers took control from the fourth inning on as neither side managed to plate another run, resulting in a narrow victory for the Noles.

Game Notes

  • After another solid day in the circle, Dennis owns a 2.54 ERA on the season.
  • Edgmon picked up her 10th RBI of the season as she batted .500 from the nine hole for the eighth time on the year.
