Jackets Place First at Alexander/Asics Invite

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams concluded their weekend of competition with first place team finishes on Saturday at the Alexander/Asics Invite. Alex Thomas and Riley Perlakowski were Tech’s top performers as both runners placed second in their respective races.

Thomas led the men’s team in the 8K race, posting a personal-best time of 24:47.29. Charlie Smith was the second Yellow Jacket to cross the finish line with a fifth-place time of 25:24.87. Four other runners from Tech finished in the top 10 of the men’s 8K race. Miguel Schlict finished seventh (25:30.02), Tristan Autry followed in eighth place (25:35.64), Zack Truitt finished ninth (25:40.20) and Cole Miller came in 10th place with a time of 25:42.96.

The women dominated the 5K race with six Jackets placing in the top 10. Perlakowski was the first to cross the finish line with a personal and second-place time of 17:59.27. Clay McKnight rounded out the top five with a career-best time of 18:11.12. Abbey Green earned a seventh-place finish (18:16.07), Allie Walker came in eighth (18:18.44, PR), Ashley Sechrest finished in ninth (18:23.21, PR) and Sophie Boice ran a 10th-place time of 18:29.44.

Tech will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 14 at the Penn State National Open in University Park, Pa.
