Jackets Open Day One of ITA Regionals

Singles Qualifying Bracket

THE FLATS –  Georgia Tech men’s tennis began day one action of the ITA Southeast Regionals in Athens, Ga. on Friday morning.

Freshman Cole Gromley first faced off with North Florida’s Nilo Duarte, defeating him 6-1, 6-3. In the round of 32, Gromley then downed Georgia Southern’s Pascal Wagemaker, 6-2, 6-1. His two victories launch him into the round of 16 on Saturday.

Gromley wasn’t the only Jacket who had success on opening day, as Brandon Freestone also grabbed a win. The sophomore received a bye into the round of 32 where he defeated North Florida’s Federico Nani, 7-5, 7-5. Freestone now advances to the round of 16 where he will take on Georgia State’s Andrei Duarte.

The main singles draw will begin on Saturday, followed by the main doubles draw. Fans can follow along with live results here.
