TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Scott Blackmon and Jose Muguruza moved on in the consolation singles draw on the second day of the Seminole Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla.
Muguruza, a senior from Wesley Chapel, Fla., made easy work of University of Florida’s Johnny Hamuii with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the first round of the `A’ Division consolation draw. He will face Marek Sramek of the University of South Alabama on Sunday morning at 8 a.m.
Blackmon, a senior from Pensacola, Fla., defeated Ivan Besancon of Mercer, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of the consolation draw. Blackmon advanced to the Sunday’s semifinal after his next opponent, Bam Ten Berge of Mississippi, dropped out of the tournament.
“The guys came out focused and ready to play today,” assistant coach Josh Hausman said. “They finished points well and were ready to play at such a high level. Muguruza dominated his opponent.”
In the doubles draw, Muguruza and Blackmon won their second round match over Joshua Varela and Drake Bernstein of Georgia, 8-4. In their second match of the day, the Jacket duo fell to Jean-Yves Aubone and Clint Bowles of Florida State, 8-5.
