ATLANTA – On `Swim For The Cure’ day at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center, the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will begin their 2010-11 season with a tri-meet against Western Kentucky and Florida Atlantic University on Saturday, October 23 at 1 p.m.
“We are very excited to start competition for the 2010-11 season,” said head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. “Both of the teams we are taking on this weekend are very good teams so we cannot take anyone lightly. We have worked hard during the preseason and now it’s time to see what we can do in competition.”
The Jackets took on both Florida Atlantic and Western Kentucky last season in separate meets. The men’s squad swept both teams while the women beat Florida Atlantic and tied Western Kentucky for the first tie in program history.
The men’s team is coming off of a fifth place finish at the ACC Championships and a 23rd place finish at the NCAA Championship while the women enter this season after a ninth place showing at the conference meet.
The swim team will do their part in support of breast cancer awareness as they go pink this weekend at their meet. There will be Georgia Tech pink shirts, hats and visors on sale at the meet while any other donations will be accepted to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation Atlanta Chapter.
