Jackets Jump to No. 5 in ITA Rankings

THE FLATS – Coming off its fourth-straight victory, the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team has risen to No. 5 in the latest Oracle ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings released on Tuesday.

The Jackets own a 10-2 overall record on the season and opened ACC play with a 5-2 win over No. 36 Florida State last Sunday. This season, Tech boasts five wins over nationally-ranked opponents including Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee and UCLA. Tech’s only losses came in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

This is the first time Tech has broken into the top 10 in the national rankings since Feb. 12, 2010 when the Jackets were ranked No. 9. Tech held the No. 1 ranking in 2007 – the same year the Jackets won the national championship – for the highest ranking in school history.

The Jackets opened the spring season ranked No. 11, fell to No. 13 following ITA National Indoors and moved back to No. 11 last week.

Tech is one of three ACC teams ranked in the top 10 as North Carolina sits at No. 3 and Duke comes in at No. 10.

UP NEXT: Tech returns to the court and concludes this homestand on Friday, welcoming Virginia Tech for a 3 p.m. match at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
