ATLANTA – The Yellow Jacket women’s basketball team will host the seventh-annual Georgia Tech/Atlanta Marriott NW Holiday Invitational at Alexander Memorial Coliseum this week. First round games include the Yellow Jackets facing Mississippi Valley State Thursday at 1 p.m., with Alcorn State and South Carolina State to follow at 3 p.m. The winner of the first round games will play at 3 p.m. Friday for the title, with the consolation game preceding that contest at 1 p.m.

Georgia Tech (6-2) has won all six home games this season, with its only losses coming to 8-0 Tulsa and 9-0 St. John’s on the road. The Yellow Jackets are averaging 64.7 points per contest at Alexander Memorial Coliseum this season, while holding opponents to just 49.5 points at home. Leading the team in scoring on the year are sophomore Stephanie Higgs (14.9 ppg) and freshman Chioma Nnamaka (13.4 ppg), while junior Jessica Williams is tops on the team with 7.3 rebounds per game.
The Yellow Jackets face Mississippi Valley State in the first game of the tournament, and the Delta Devils enter the contest with a 2-5 record on the season. MVSU has played just one home game on the season and has dropped all three of its games on the road. The Delta Devils are led offensively by Portia Wilson and Angela Howard, with 11.4 and 9.4 points per game, respectively.
Alcorn State and South Carolina State square off in second game on Thursday, with Alcorn State entering the contest with a 3-3 record while SCSU stands at 4-4 on the season.
Following the tournament, the Yellow Jackets will host UAB Monday at 7 p.m. for their final non-conference game prior to the start of ACC play.
