Jackets Host `Rival Meet' Wednesday Night

Nov. 2, 2010

ATLANTA – After splitting with Western Kentucky and Florida Atlantic on October 23, the men’s and women’s swimming and diving squads will return to the pool when they host a `Rival Meet’ against Georgia and Emory in a mid-week match up on Wednesday, November 3 at 5 p.m.

The meet is the second of the season for the Jackets and their second at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.

“We are very excited to host these two great teams on Wednesday night,” said head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. “Georgia and Emory are two of the top programs in their respective divisions (SEC and UAA). We are looking forward to swimming fast this week and racing against some tough competition.”

On the men’s side of things, Georgia is coming off of a third place performance in the SEC Championships and an eighth place finish at the NCAA Championships. Emory, at the Division III level, took home their 12th-straight UAA Championship and finished third in the nation at the NCAA Championships.

The Georgia women took home the SEC Championship last year en route to a fifth place showing at the NCAA Championships while the Emory women, like their male counterparts, earned their 12th-straight UAA Championship and their third Division III National Championship title in six years.

The Jackets and Bulldogs have not met since the 2007-08 season in Atlanta. Both Georgia teams took home wins on the day as the men defeated Tech 134-104 while the women earned a 139-94 victory. Georgia leads the series on both the men’s (58-25) and women’s (5-0) sides.

Emory and Georgia Tech got together last season on Senior Day as the Jackets swept the Eagles. The women are currently undefeated against Emory after nine years as a swimming and diving program while the men boast an 82-4 record over their cross town rivals.
