THE FLATS – The bats were cold for No. 17 Georgia Tech baseball as it fell 9-0 to Florida State on Friday night at Mac Nease Baseball Park.
The Yellow Jackets (18-15, 14-11 ACC) got four hits on four players with Tres Gonzalez having the lone extra-base hit, a double. Luke Waddell, Justyn-Henry Malloy and Andrew Jenkins also singled on the night.
On the mound, LHP Brant Hurter (3-3) received the loss, surrendering three earned runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings of work. LHP Dalton Smith steadied the game, pitching 3.0 innings of one-hit baseball in relief.
The 17th-ranked Seminoles (19-14, 14-11 ACC) were led by three multi-hit performances with Davis Hare going 3-for-5. LHP Parker Messick (4-2) turned in a quality start, surrendering just three hits in six scoreless innings to get the win.
Georgia Tech returns for Game 2 against Florida State on Saturday, April 24. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
