Jackets Head to Women's ACC Championships and Men's ACC Diving Championships

Feb. 13, 2007

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the Women’s Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships and Men’s ACC Diving Championships, Feb. 14-17, in Koury Natatorium.

“The team morale is good and we are looking forward to getting back into action,” said Tech coach Stuart Wilson. “We believe that we can improve a few spots from last year’s performance and the girls are looking forward to proving that.”

Leading the way for the Jackets will be All-American diver Evan Stowers. Stowers, a junior from Independece, Ky., won the men’s three-meter board last year and finished runner-up on the one-meter springboard at the ACC meet. He became just the second ACC champion in diving history and the first Yellow Jacket to garner All-ACC honors on both boards.

Junior Elizabeth Stowe leads the women’s swimmers heading into the conference championship. Stowe, a native of Lawrenceville, Ga., holds the team’s only NCAA `B’ standard with a season-best time of 16:48.57 in the 1650-yard freestyle. She stands sixth in the league in that event and eighth in the 500 free (4:54.65).

The only other swimmer to hold a top-10 time in the ACC is senior co-captain Alison Walker. Walker, a native of Marietta, Ga., ranks fifth in the league with a season-best swim of 1:03.78 in the 100 breaststroke.

Divers Stephanie England and Hannah Krimm also hold top-10 marks for the Jackets on the women’s springboards. England, a junior from Titusville, Fla., ranks third on the three-meter board with a NCAA Zone qualifying score of 319.80.

Krimm, a freshman from Upper Arlington, Ohio, holds the league’s seventh best mark on the one-meter board with a NCAA Zone score of 288.15. She ranks sixth on the three-meter board with a NCAA Zone score of 304.30.

The conference meet will begin on Wednesday evening with the 800 free and 400 medley relays. That will begin at 7 p.m. All morning sessions will start at 11 a.m. and the entire meet can be followed on www.ramblinwreck.com.
