Jackets Fall to Florida State, 9-6

Box Score (.pdf)

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech baseball was unable to complete the comeback and fell 9-6 to No. 13 Florida State on Saturday afternoon at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (20-12, 6-8 ACC) battled back and forth with the Seminoles (18-12, 7-7 ACC), evening the score in the seventh on a fielder’s choice RBI by Andrew Jenkins and sac fly RBI by Tres Gonzalez, but one run in the eighth and two in the ninth by Florida State proved too much to overcome.

Tech was once again led at the plate by Kevin Parada, who went 3-for-5 with a home run and triple for three RBI. Chandler Simpson also had a multi-hit day, going 3-for-5 with a leadoff triple to start the game. Jenkins finished with just one hit on the day but drove in three runs on five plate appearances (sac fly, single, fielder’s choice).

Starter RHP Logan McGuire surrendered three runs on three hits in the first 3.0 innings in his second career start and first weekend start. The Jackets used six pitchers overall on the day with RHP John Medich (2-2) receiving the loss, allowing one run on a sac fly in the eighth over two innings total.

Florida State was led Brett Roberts who finished with two hits and a double, while RHP Davis Hare (1-0) received the win, allowing two runs on two hits in 2.2 innings of work. LHP Jonah Scolaro got the save.

The Yellow Jackets will host the rubber game on Sunday, April 10. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live nationally on ACC Network as well as WREK 91.1 FM.
