Jackets Fall 5-4 to Mercer

THE FLATS – Despite early home runs from Kevin Parada and Drew Compton and a ninth-inning, game-tying homer from Colin Hall, No. 7 Georgia Tech was unable to down Mercer on Tuesday night, falling 5-4 at OrthoGeorgia Park.

The Yellow Jackets (10-3) were held to just five hits overall, with Compton provided a double as well and Tim Borden II firing a double also.

On the mound, Tech used six pitchers. In his first start at Georgia Tech, RHP John Medich impressed, allowing just two hits in the opening three innings, while striking out three. RHP Dawson Brown (0-1) received the loss, surrendering one run in the final 1.2 innings.

The Bears (12-1) were led by Colby Thomas, who finished 2-for-3 with a home run and a double. RHP Luke Sutko (2-0) received the win, pitching a hitless final three outs.

The Yellow Jackets open ACC play this weekend against Virginia Tech at home, beginning on Friday, March 11. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
