ORLANDO, Fl. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis concluded its 2021 season on Tuesday evening as redshirt freshmen Andres Martin & Marcus McDaniel suffered a 7-6 (3), 6-2 loss to No. 4 ranked Adam Walton/Pat Harper of Tennessee in the second round of the NCAA Doubles Championships tournament at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fl.
No. 19 Martin/McDaniel started the first set off with a 2-0 lead, before Walton/Harper evened it out at three all. The Jackets and Volunteers traded scores until the first set came down to a tiebreaker that saw Tech lose 7-3. The second set saw Tennessee’s duo seal up the win with a 6-2 showing. Martin ends the year with an 18-6 overall doubles record, while McDaniel finishes at 13-12 overall. The pair fell to 6-4 when playing together this season.
2021 marked the first year in program history that two freshmen qualified for NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships in the same year. The 2021 campaign saw Martin & McDaniel both named as All-ACC honorees, with McDaniel making first team and Martin being listed on second team.
