Jackets Complete Day One At Two Meets

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Georgia Tech track and field team completed a successful day Friday at two meets, the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. and Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., as the Jackets recorded several personal-record marks at the Florida Relays.

In Gainesville, Spencer Allen kicked the meet off for the Yellow Jackets in the 110-meter hurdles. Allen ran to a personal-record time of 14.28.

The men’s 800 meters followed as the Yellow Jackets continued to have success with three PR’s and two top-10 finishes out of 49 competitors. Brandon Lasater ran his fastest 800-meter time of his career and placed second in a time of 1:47.19. Teammates Shawn Roberts took seventh in a career-best time of 1:47.66 and Zack Fanelty finished 11th in a personal-best mark of 1:49.58.

In the women’s 1,500 meters, Morgan Jackson placed 12th out of 44 runners with a PR time of 4:26.30, more than six seconds faster than her previous best. Teammates Carolina Kissel (PR; 4:35.92) and Laura Serres (PR; 4:36.60) took 28th and 29th, respectively.

On the men’s side, three Yellow Jackets placed in the top 10 led by Jeremy Greenwald’s second-place finish. Greenwald crossed the line in a PR time of 3:45.83, followed by Nat Estes in ninth (3:52.89) and Patrick Fleming in 10th (PR; 3:52.98). Chris Burnett finished 14th in a career-best time of 3:53.51 and Nico Metzler placed 20th (3:55.01).

In the women’s 5,000 meters, Melissa Fairey ran to a PR time of 17:20.53. Allison Brackin, Kelly Meyer and Hayley Keady set new personal bests with times of 17:24.44, 17:29.98 and 17:31.18, respectively.

For the men, Patrick Barron took second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:28.77. Billy Koskiewicz took 11th in a time of 14:43.08 and Troy Hayden placed 18th (14:55.24). 

In the field events, Julienne McKee placed eighth in the long jump with a distance of 5.99m (19-08.00).

Action continues at the Florida Relays on Saturday with the men’s triple jump at 1:30 p.m.

Auburn                             
The Javelin throw kicked off the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn Ala., as Ashleigh Uhl placed 10th in the with a toss of 34.17m (112-01) and Monique Pate took 14th (24.13m; 79-02).

Also in the field events, Carissa Tipler placed fifth in the triple jump with a personal-best distance of 11.90m (39-00.50).

On the track, Laura Nelson took third in the 5,000 meters in a career-best time of 17:50.82. Fellow Jackets Elena Hubbard (sixth, 18:14.23) and Kaylee Isaacs (seventh, 18:17.32) also placed in the top 10 out of 28 competitors.

Action continues in Auburn on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT with the women’s pole vault.
