Jackets Add Jessie Weaver To 2007-08 Softball Class

April 16, 2007

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team added a third person to its 2007-08 recruiting class with the signing of Jessie Weaver to a National Letter of Intent, announced by head coach Sharon Perkins on Monday.

Weaver, a native of Kingston, Ga., is currently a senior at Woodland High School. She garnered all-state honors in each of her final two seasons and was named All-Bartow County Player of the Year as a junior and senior.

“We are excited to have Jes join our team,” said Perkins. “She is a strong athlete that will add to our catching staff. It is nice to welcome another Georgia player to our roster.”

This past year, Weaver was named Region 5 AAAA Player of the Year after hitting .417, with 10 home runs and 36 runs batted in. She only struck out 11 times in 103 at bats and walked 14 times. She was also named Woodland High School Female Athlete of the Year and is a three-time all-region performer (2004-06).

Weaver will join early signees, Amanda Crow and Christy Jones, in the freshman class next season. Crow is a senior at East Coweta High School in Sharpsburg, Ga., while Jones is a senior at Maize High School in Wichita, Kan.
