THE FLATS β In front of an electric, standing-room-only crowd at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium, No. 10 Georgia Tech baseball earned the first win in Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate, 11-7, over No. 5 Georgia on Friday night.
The Yellow Jackets (9-1) got a terrific start from RHP Chance Huff (2-0), who went a career-long 7.0 innings, allowing just one run on three hits and striking out six batters. Also impressive on the mound was RHP John Medich, who worked the final inning clean to secure the win.
At the plate, Georgia Tech was once again powerful, recording 13 overall hits with production up and down the lineup. Chandler Simpson led the way with three hits and a stolen base, including a bunt single in the eighth. Colin Hall and Kevin Parada finished with two hits apiece, with Hallβs coming one on two doubles.
Tim Borden II had one of the biggest hits of the night, a mammoth three-run homer in the fourth to extend the lead. Andrew Jenkins also had three RBI when he hit a single up the middle late with bases loaded in the eighth. Drew Compton also had a two-RBI double to kick things off in the first frame.
The Bulldogs (8-1) were led by Josh McAllister, who finished with two hits, a double and two RBI. RHP Jonathan Cannon (2-1) took his first loss of the season, surrendering six runs on seven hits in six innings, despite striking out eight.
Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate now shifts to Athens, Ga. for Game 2 of the weekend series. First pitch is scheduled at Foley Field at 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on SEC Network+ and WREK 91.1 FM.

Here in Atlanta, dynamite atmosphere for game 1 of Georgia vs Georgia Tech. Big 3-run first for @GTBaseball sparked by dynamo Chandler Simpson, capped by Drew Compton's 2-run double down the LF line, nice job going other way on a backdoor cutter from Jonathan Cannon. pic.twitter.com/VjlNT49DbV

Chance Huff looks better than I've ever seen him. The @GTBaseball righty is attacking the zone at 92-95 with feel for a mid-80s slider with good tilt, quality changeup and 80-81 curve. Good deception too, uncomfortable at-bat. He has 3 K thru 3 scoreless. pic.twitter.com/AxiPZtxSpP

Aside from the Collins homer, Chance Huff has been great through four for @GTBaseball.
Fastball up to 95, lots of strikes, only two hits. Jackets lead, 3-1.

Spent a lot of time this week talking about the contrast in styles between UGA and GT. So far tonight, GT's bats are winning the matchup.
Tim Borden just crushed a three-run homer to center. 107 off the bat. 6-1 Jackets in the fourth.

Kevin Parada (β22, Elig.) displays his + athleticism as he is able to make this play out in front of home w/ ease. On the mound, Chance Huff (β22 Elig.) is cruising. 5 complete w/ 5 Kβs, 0 BB. FB up to 95 early. #WreckHavoc @GTBaseball #PGDraft pic.twitter.com/nulhzLNayH

So impressed with Chance Huff tonight. His control faltered for the first time all night in the 7th, walked first 2 men of the inning – then got a double play ball and a strikeout on a good breaker to escape unscathed. He's fired up as he walks off the mound, @GTBaseball up 6-1.

Kevin Parada has always stood out for his uncommon athleticism for a catcher, and he's shown it off a couple times tonight for @GTBaseball. Made a very agile play on a nubber in front of him earlier, now scores on a sac fly thanks to a terrific slide to avoid the tag.

Chance Huff done after seven innings for @GTBaseball: 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 K.
Up to 95 mph, threw some good hard sliders. He's looking good at the front of the rotation.

Chandler Simpson update: he's still fast. I got 3.64 seconds up the line on a bunt single just now. He has 3 hits tonight, and his speed has just been such a factor in this game, in obvious ways and more subtle ways. The @GTBaseball shortstop is just such a treat to watch.
