THE FLATS – In front of an electric, standing-room-only crowd at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium, No. 10 Georgia Tech baseball earned the first win in Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate, 11-7, over No. 5 Georgia on Friday night.

The Yellow Jackets (9-1) got a terrific start from RHP Chance Huff (2-0), who went a career-long 7.0 innings, allowing just one run on three hits and striking out six batters. Also impressive on the mound was RHP John Medich, who worked the final inning clean to secure the win.

At the plate, Georgia Tech was once again powerful, recording 13 overall hits with production up and down the lineup. Chandler Simpson led the way with three hits and a stolen base, including a bunt single in the eighth. Colin Hall and Kevin Parada finished with two hits apiece, with Hall’s coming one on two doubles.

Tim Borden II had one of the biggest hits of the night, a mammoth three-run homer in the fourth to extend the lead. Andrew Jenkins also had three RBI when he hit a single up the middle late with bases loaded in the eighth. Drew Compton also had a two-RBI double to kick things off in the first frame.

The Bulldogs (8-1) were led by Josh McAllister, who finished with two hits, a double and two RBI. RHP Jonathan Cannon (2-1) took his first loss of the season, surrendering six runs on seven hits in six innings, despite striking out eight.

Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate now shifts to Athens, Ga. for Game 2 of the weekend series. First pitch is scheduled at Foley Field at 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on SEC Network+ and WREK 91.1 FM.
