ATHENS, Ga. – After a great run in the ITA Southeast Regionals doubles main draw, the No. 3 Georgia Tech duo of Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones wrapped up the tournament Monday morning.
Facing Florida International’s tandem of Ulyana Grib and Maryna Veksler in the doubles final, Hourigan and Jones kept a tight hold on the match. Tied 1-1 in the early going, FIU grabbed a 2-1 lead before the Jackets pocketed the next two games to take a 3-2 advantage. With Tech leading 4-3 in the match, the Panthers battled back to win the next four games and grab a 7-4 edge. FIU claimed the match, 8-5, despite a persistent Tech tandem.
At-large selections into the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships will be made this week for the Nov. 1-5 event in Palm Desert, Calif.
