Hicks to Leave Tech Basketball Program

March 28, 2012

ATLANTA – Nate Hicks, a reserve center on the Georgia Tech basketball team, will transfer to another school following spring semester, head coach Brian Gregory announced Wednesday.

A Management major, Hicks played in 47 games over two seasons for the Yellow Jackets, missing seven games as a freshman with a broken nose and a concussion and eight games this past season with mononucleosis. He averaged 1.4 points and 2.1 rebounds while hitting 54.9 percent of his shots from the floor, and blocked 19 shots. The 6-10 rising junior will have two years of eligibility at another institution.

“Nate is an outstanding young man and has been a valuable member of our program this year,” said Gregory. “But he is looking for an opportunity at another school where he can play more. We wish him well and will do whatever we can to assist him.”

Hicks signed with Tulane out of J.R. Arnold High School in Panama City Beach, Fla., but was released from his letter of intent when the Green Wave changed coaches and enrolled at Tech for the fall semester in 2010.
