Feb. 7, 2008

ATLANTA –

Cameron Tringale and Chesson Hadley both hold positions among the top 10 individuals, and the fifth-ranked Yellow Jackets are in fifth place, nine stroke behind, after 36 holes of the season-opening UH Hilo Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawai’i.

Tringale, a junior from Laguna Niguel, Calif., shot a 3-under-par 67 Thursday to go with his first-round 65, and is one shot off the lead. Tringale is in a four-way tie at 8-under-par 132, while defending national champion Jamie Lovemark of Southern California and Jesper Kennegard of Arizona State are tied at 9-under 131. Kennegard’s 63 was the day’s low round.

Hadley, a sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., added a 4-under-par 66 to his opening 68 and stands in 10th place at 6-under-par 134.

Tech, meanwhile, posted an 8-under-par team score of 272 Thursday, and is in fifth place at 13-under-par 547, nine shots off the pace of Stanford (22-under 538). The defending NCAA champion Cardinal bolted into the lead with a 17-under-par round of 263 Thursday. Arizona State (17-under) is in second place, followed by USC (16-under) and Texas Tech (14-under).

The Jackets counted a 1-under-par 69 Thursday from red-shirt freshman Paul Haley (tied for 43rd place at 1-over-par 141) and an even-par 70 from sophomore Daniel Bowden (tied for 82nd at 7-over 147). David Dragoo shot a 71 and is tied for 43rd with Haley.
