Georgia Tech’s Sims Nominated for Good Works Team

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech football junior defensive back Myles Sims (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) is one of 114 student-athletes nominated for the 2022 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. The Good Works Team recognizes student-athletes for exemplary community service, academic dedication and impact on and off the field.

Sims has dedicated his time and talents to a number of community service initiatives during his three years at Georgia Tech, including Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army. Perhaps most notably, shortly after receiving his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgia Tech in May, Sims joined a group of 16 Georgia Tech student-athletes from across multiple sports to embark on Tech’s fourth Jackets Without Borders international service trip.

Returning after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Jackets Without Borders returned to Puerto Rico in 2022 to continue to assist with rehabilitation following the devastating hurricanes that ravaged the island in 2017. Thanks in large part to Sims’ efforts and leadership, the group was able to lay the entire foundation for a house in less than one week.

Myles Sims (center in gold shirt) graduated from Georgia Tech and participated in the fourth Jackets Without Borders international service trip in May.

Established in 1992, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is one of the most coveted community service awards in college football. From the 114 nominees, the final roster of 23 award recipients will bring together 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision; 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA); and one honorary head coach. To be considered for a spot on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, each player must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining strong academic standing.

The final 22-member team and honorary coach will be selected by a voting panel of former Good Works Team members and journalists and announced in September.
