ATLANTA — Georgia Tech sophomore tennis player Joao Menano advanced to the final round of the pre-qualifying draw for the ITA All-American Championship before being eliminated from the tournament on Monday. The nine-day tournament is being held at the Lincoln Tennis Center in Stone Mountain, Ga.

Menano was able to take an early lead in his match with Matias Marin of Bayolr, as he won the first set by a 6-4 score, but Marin rebounded over the next two sets and won by 6-4, 6-1 scores, to take the match by a decisive 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 count.

Although eliminated from singles play, Menano remains alive in doubles competition, as he and teammate Stephen Moros have reached the qualifying round of the tournament and will take on Berntson and Roberts of Boise State in that draw. Also in the qualifying round of doubles is the duo of West Nott and Scott Schnugg, who will face Marin and Ross of Baylor in the opening round on Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets already have two players in the tournament’s main draw, as both Roger Anderson and David Wright will compete in singles play along with teaming up in the doubles competition.
