THE FLATS – Junior Tyaunna Marshall was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week after leading Georgia Tech to a 2-0 week, the conference announced Monday.
It is the second time this season Marshall has earned the weekly award.
Marshall finished with a pair of double-doubles in wins over Wake Forest and Virginia, her fifth and sixth double-doubles of the year. She led Tech with 26.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game last week. Her 50 percent field goal percentage was tops on the team as well. Sixteen of her 27 rebounds came on the offensive end and have helped Georgia Tech be the best offensive rebounding team in the ACC.
“Ty has taken her game to another level over the past few weeks,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “She is very deserving of winning ACC Player of the Week. Ty has put this team on her back and carried us. I am proud of her for stepping up and accepting the responsibility of being a go-to player.”
In the Jackets’ 89-82 overtime victory against Wake Forest, Marshall tied her career-high with 28 points and set new career-bests with 17 rebounds and seven assists. Her 28 points, 17 rebounds, seven assists and four steals against Wake Forest were all game-highs.
In the win at Virginia, she had a team-best 25 points, game-high 10 rebounds, game-best three steals and added three assists. She had a clutch steal and putback with 15.3 seconds left to give Georgia Tech the lead for good.
Marshall and the Jackets return to Atlanta for a pair of contests at McCamish Pavilion. Tech will host Virginia Tech at 8:30 p.m. Friday night on the ACC Regional Sports Networks in the only meeting of the two Techs this season. The Jackets will have a short turnaround before hosting No. 16 North Carolina at 11:30 a.m. Sunday on ESPNU in Tech’s annual Play4Kay game.
