GEORGIA TECH'S CASTRO AND FINKLER TABBED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA

ATLANTA – Senior All-American golfer Roberto Castro and senior swimmer Ofer Finkler were named to the 2007 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America men’s at-large teams, announced on Tuesday. Castro was named to the first team, while Finkler earned second team honors.

Castro, a native of Alpharetta, Ga., carried a 3.78 grade point average and graduated from Tech in May with his degree in industrial engineering. He earned All-America honors in each of his four seasons and was also a four-time All-ACC honoree. Castro garnered second team All-America honors this year after posting a stroke average of 71.77 and finished in the top 10 in a team-high six of 11 tournaments.

Finkler, a native of Rishon-LeZion, Israel, earned his electrical engineering degree this past May and posted an impressive 3.95 GPA. He swam the third leg of the record-setting 200-yard freestyle relay team at the ACC Championship, clocking a NCAA `B’ standard time of 1:20.35. Finkler qualified for the consolation finals at the ACC meet and finished 11th in the 50 free with a lifetime-best time of 20.57. He ranks on Tech’s all-time top 10 list in the 50 and 100 freestyle events, and holds school records on all the freestyle relays.
