Georgia Tech's Brittany Jackson Named To ACC All-Freshman Team

March 5, 2013

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech freshman Brittany Jackson has been selected to the ACC’s Women’s Basketball All-Freshman Team by both the league’s head coaches and the Blue Ribbon Panel, conference commissioner John Swofford announced Tuesday.

Jackson is the ninth Yellow Jacket to receive the honor. It is the third straight year in which a Tech rookie has earned the distinction after Tyaunna Marshall in 2011 and Sydney Wallace in 2012.

“We are proud of Brittany for being named to the ACC All-Freshman Team,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “I think it was hard to select just one of our freshmen as three of them started in addition to Brittany and have made significant contributions to our team throughout the season. Any time one of our players is recognized with an award, it is a credit to the entire team and program. We are very happy for Brittany.”

Jackson was second on the Yellow Jackets with 10.3 points per game this season and 39 3-pointers made. Her 1.9 3-pointers per game in ACC play ranked 10th overall and second among league freshmen. Jackson scored at least 20 points in five games this season and made five 3-pointers in three games. She had seven games with at least three 3-pointers this season.

She was a two-time ACC Rookie of the Week and her 81.1 free throw percentage in ACC games ranked fifth overall and tops among freshmen. Against NC State, Jackson was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line tied for the third best performance in Georgia Tech history.

Tech will face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the first round of the 2013 ACC Tournament on Thursday at the Greensboro (N.C.) Coliseum. The contest will tip-off at 6 p.m. and be aired on the ACC’s Regional Sports Networks. The winner will face second-seeded Maryland at 6 p.m. Friday, March 8, on the ACC’s Regional Sports Networks.
