ATLANTA — The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team got things rolling on Saturday, by going a perfect 7-0 on the day to advance players to singles quarterfinal play and doubles semis in the consolation of the main draw in Mobile, Ala at the Omni Hotels ITA South Regional. The tournament, which serves as a qualifier for the National Indoor Championships, is being contested at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The Yellow Jackets opened the day in singles competition, as sophomore Kristen Roberson advanced to Sunday’s quarterfinals with a pair of victories. Following a first-round bye, Roberson downed Rebecca Mitchell in the second round in straight sets by a 6-0, 7-5 score. She followed that with an impressive straight-set win over Patricia Kolendo in the round of 16 by a 6-1, 6-2 count. Roberson will face Mei Ly in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
Tech’s other remaining singles player is junior Mason Miller, who played just her round of 16 match in the “B” singles draw on Saturday, downing Martina Janska of Auburn in straight sets by a 7-5, 6-4 score. Miller will face Christina Denny in Sunday’s quarterfinals.
In doubles play, both of the Yellow Jackets doubles teams recorded perfect 2-0 records in the consolation bracket of the main doubles draw. Tech’s Mason Miller teamed with fellow junior Jamie Wong to win their first match of the day over Carolina Ararena and Talia Flores by an 8-3 score. Following a second-round bye, the duo downed Josien Boverhof and Dominika Nemcovicova, who were the tourney’s sixth seed, by an 8-2 score. Miller and Wong will face Sophie De’Smet and Sally Person in Sunday’s semifinal round.
Tech’s other doubles tandem of senior Laura Ozolins and freshman Catherine Gunn, opened their consolation play with a win over Amy Bartlett and Brooke McNamee by an impressive 8-1 count. Gunn and Ozolins also had a second-round bye before defeating Petra Bercik and Carolina Ramirez of Auburn by an 8-3 score. The duo will now face Jackie Bohannon and Analia Longoni on Sunday.
