ATLANTA (Nov. 13) — Georgia Tech’s women’s cross country team posted its best-ever finish in the NCAA District IX Championship meet after placing fourth Saturday at Auburn University. The Yellow Jacket’s men’s team placed 11th in its final meet of the season.
Senior Becky Megesi (Jonesboro, Ga.) placed 11th as the Jacket’s top women’s finisher in a time of 17:20.11. A qualifier for the NCAA Championship last year, she missed qualifying by four places this year. She was followed by junior Sara Pardue (Aurora, Colo.), who was 27th in 17:52.34; freshman Aenslee Tanner (Portsmouth, N.H.), who was 38th in 18:00.71; sophomore Rachael Caruso (Duluth, Ga.), who was 49th in 18:14.78 and sophomore Amy Edwards (Marietta, Ga.), who was 50th in 18:15.41. South Florida won the team title with 70 points, while Catherine Berry of East Tennessee State was the individual winner.
The men’s team was led by senior Brad Mills (Toledo, Ohio), who finished 15th in the a time of 30:40.71. He was followed by senior Giovanni Pipia (Acworth, Ga.), who was 55th in 31:56.08; junior Joey Zins (Atlanta, Ga.), who was 72nd in 32:23.60; junior Brent Williams (Farmington, Mo.), who was 78th in 32:30.36; and Brent Johnson (Fayetteville, Ga.), who was 83rd in 32.33.88. Southern Mississippi won the team title with 67 points, while David Kimani of South Alabama won the individual title.
