ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team (40-16) will travel to Statesboro, Ga., for its non-conference finale against Georgia Southern (24-28) on Wednesday, April 26. The Yellow Jackets and Eagles will play a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
Tech continues to be one of the top offensive teams in the country. The Yellow Jackets lead the nation in stolen bases (118), rank sixth in scoring offense (6.48 runs per game), 10th in slugging percentage (.502) and batting average (.314), 13th in home runs per game (1.04) and 26th in doubles per game (1.45).
The Jackets are 21-3 against GSU over the last 24 games and defeated the Eagles 8-0 in five innings in Atlanta on April 11. Tech holds a 38-13 advantage in the overall series.
Freshman Whitney Haller ranks second in the nation with 22 home runs and leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in several categories, including batting average (.434),hits (75), runs scored (56), home runs, runs batted in (68), total bases (155) and slugging percentage (.896). Haller also ranks second in the nation with six saves in the circle.
For the Eagles, GSU is led by Shanita Black, hitting .389, with eight RBI and seven triples. In the circle, Melissa Laliberte leads the way with a 9-10 record and a 2.33 ERA.
The Yellow Jackets (11-7 ACC) return to Atlanta to face No. 25 Virginia Tech (33-14, 10-7 ACC) in a three-game ACC series at Glenn Field, April 29-30. Tech will honor seniors Amy Hosier and Christine Sheridan on Sunday, both days start at 1 p.m.
