THE FLATS – Georgia Tech baseball will honor the 2002 College World Series team on Saturday, April 9 when the Yellow Jackets are scheduled to take on Florida State at 4 p.m. at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Members of the team will be recognized during the game and will be honored with a commemorative T-shirt giveaway in the style of the 2002 uniforms.

After being selected to host as an at-large, Georgia Tech went 3-0 in its NCAA Regional defeating Coastal Carolina, and Georgia twice to host a Super Regional against Florida Atlantic. The Yellow Jackets then improved to a perfect 5-0 in the NCAA Tournament with 14-3 and 11-5 wins over FAU to earn its second trip to Omaha in program history. Tech then opened CWS play by routing South Carolina 11-0 before dropping back-to-back heartbreakers to Clemson and USC to end its run.

The 2002 season was one of the finest in school history as Georgia Tech set a new program record with 52 wins, while eclipsing the 50-win mark for the fourth time in team history. Six Yellow Jackets were selected in the 2002 MLB Draft, including Victor Menocal, who was named to the All-College World Series team after batting a blistering .563 with six runs scored in Omaha.

Georgia Tech also finished as a consensus top-10 team for just the third time under head coach Danny Hall, including a No. 5 final ranking by Collegiate Baseball and USA Today, while Baseball America ranked Tech at No. 8.

First pitch on April 9 is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
