GEORGIA TECH REMAINS PERFECT WITH WIN OVER ALABAMA

Jackets stay undefeated while Crimson Tide fall to 3-2

ATLANTA – Sophomore Jordan Delass won at No. 3 doubles and No. 4 singles as No. 32 Georgia Tech improved to 4-0 on the season as they defeated No. 53 Alabama by a score of 6-1. Rain and cold weather forced the match to be moved indoors.

Tech took a 1-0 lead in the match by claiming the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches. After Alabama’s Joseph Jung and Mathieu Thibaudeau defeated 22nd ranked David North and Marko Rajevac 8-6 at the No. 1 spot, the Jackets rebounded by winning at No. 3 doubles as sophomores Jordan Delass and George Gvelesiani easily won their match 8-3 over the Crimson Tide’s Andrew Felsenthal and Dan Buikema. Sophomore Scott Blackmon and junior Zachary Rath clinched the doubles point by defeating Javier Bes and Billy Mertz 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.

The Jackets increased their lead to 3-0 with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. North improved his singles record to 3-1 this season as he defeated Thibaudeau in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 3 position to give Tech a 2-0 lead. Rath got another victory for the Jackets as he won 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (5) over 87th ranked Javier Bes.

Alabama got back into the match with a win at No. 1 as 100th ranked Joseph Jung gave Rajevac his first loss of the season in a close 4-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5 decision. Tech then clinched the win as Delass defeated Mertz 7-6 (3), 6-3 at the No. 4 position.

In other singles actions, Gvelesiani defeated Felsenthal 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (5) at No. 5 and Blackmon won his match 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6 over Sammy Struyf.
