#ProJackets Football Report - Conference Championship Games

Georgia Tech alumni Harrison Butker and Jordan Mason are both vying for berths in Super Bowl LVII when they play in the National Football League’s conference championship games on Sunday.

Butker, the Kansas City Chiefs’ place kicker, is in search of his third Super Bowl berth in six NFL seasons when the top-seeded Chiefs host the third-seeded Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS. Butker made a pair of 50-yard field goals, to go along with three extra points, in last Saturday’s 27-20 AFC Divisional round win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Mason, who earned a spot on the San Francisco 49ers’ roster as a rookie free agent this season, will play for his first Super Bowl appearance on Sunday when the 49ers cross-country to face the top-seeded Philadelphia Eagles. Kickoff for the NFC Championship Game is set for 3 p.m. on Fox. Mason has rushed for 270 yards as a rookie running back and could potentially see an increased role for the 49ers against Philadelphia, as San Francisco running backs Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell are both battling injuries coming out of last Sunday’s 19-12 NFC Divisional round victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

Also representing the Yellow Jackets on NFL conference championship weekend is former Tech offensive tackle Devin Cochran, who is a rookie with the Cincinnati Bengals as a member of their practice squad.

Thirty-eight different former Georgia Tech players have gone on to play in the Super Bowl, including most recently Butker, who appeared in Super Bowls LIV and LV with the Chiefs. He earned a world championship ring for Kansas City’s 31-20 over San Francisco in Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2, 2020 in Miami.
