Georgia Tech Men's Tennis Falls to No. 6 Georgia, 5-2

David North defeated Antonio Ruiz at No. 1 singles 7-6 (4), 6-4, but the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team still dropped a match to No. 6 Georgia on Tuesday, 5-2. The Bulldogs improve to 11-2 while the Yellow Jackets fall to 7-4 on the season.

Georgia captured the doubles point with wins at all three positions. Georgia opened the match win a win at No. 3 as Ricardo Gonzalez and Matic Omerzel combined to defeat Jordan Delass and Noah Tyler, 8-1. Soon after, the 51st-ranked pair of Colin Purcell and Strahinja Bobusic defeated Jose Muguruza and Scott Blackmon, 8-3. In the final doubles match, third-ranked John Isner and Ruiz held on to defeat Rajevac and David North, 9-7.

Georgia then took a 3-0 lead as the Bulldogs won at No. 4 and No. 5 singles in straight sets. At No. 4 singles, Zachary Rath fell to Georgia’s Omerzel, 6-1, 6-4 and soon after Jordan Delass lost to Colin Purcell, 6-3, 6-4. The Bulldogs then clinched the match at No. 6 singles as Gonzalez defeated George Gvelesiani in two sets, 7-6 (5), 6-4. Georgia also took a point at No. 2 singles as No. 16 Isner defeated No. 20 Muguruza, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

Tech’s only other point on the day came at No. 3 singles as Marko Rajevac defeated Bobusic, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action when they travel to Blacksburg, Va., to take on Virginia Tech on Friday.
