Georgia Tech Falls to Demon Deacons

THE FLATS – No. 6 Georgia Tech baseball dropped its first series of the season on Saturday when it fell 27-7 to Wake Forest at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (14-5, 3-2 ACC) were unable to overcome a 12-run fifth inning for the Demon Deacons (16-3, 3-2 ACC) as the offense was unable to respond after putting up five runs through three innings.

At the plate, Andrew Jenkins paved the way with two home runs and three RBI – his second multi-homer game of the week. Tres Gonzalez also hit 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Jett Lovett tacked on a two-run homer in the ninth.

On the mound, Tech used eight pitchers overall. LHP Logan McGuire (1-1) received the loss, allowing just one run on two hits in an inning of work. Starter RHP Zach Maxwell went 3.0 innings to start, allowing five runs on four hits.

Wake was led Brock Wilken, who went 3-for-6 with five RBI and two home runs. LHP Crawford Wade (2-0) received the win, pitching 1.2 scoreless in relief. Starter RHP Seth Keener allowed four earned runs on five hits in 3.1 innings.

The Jackets will close out the series against Wake Forest on Sunday, March 20. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
