THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field team posted 15 top three finishes and picked up four victories Saturday on the final day of the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Griffin Track. Nine of the top three finishes and three of the wins were in the field events.
Julienne McKee won the long jump with a leap of 6.07m (19’11”), and teammates Jhanelle McLeod (5.88m; 19’3½) and Jasmine Kent (5.82m; 19’1¼) took third and fourth, respectively, in the event.
McLeod and McKee also posted top performances in the triple jump. McLeod won the event with a distance of 13.00m (42’8”) and McKee took second (12.75m; 41’10”).
Aaron Unterberger won the pole vault for the second week in a row as he cleared the bar at 5.25m (17’2¾”). On the women’s side, Samantha Becker took second in the pole vault by clearing the bar at 3.80m (12’5½”).
In the men’s jumps, Mykhail Chambers took second in the high jump with a height of 2.10m (6’10¾”), and Myles McDavid long jumped to second place and a distance of 7.20m (23’7½”). Jonathan Gardner placed third in the triple jump (15.58m; 51’1½”).
In the middle distance events, Brandon Lasater turned in a first-place finish in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 1:48.70. Zack Fanelty and Cole Jackob took third and fourth in the event with times of 1:50.22 and 1:51.34, respectively.
The Jackets were successful in the 1,500 meters as four Yellow Jackets placed in the top 10 led by Jeremy Greenwald’s second-place finish (3:47.15). Joseph Stowe took sixth (3:54.48), Nat Estes placed seventh (3:54.90) and Alex Clifford crossed the line in eighth (3:57.75).
Spencer Allen recorded a third-place showing in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.71. Eric Powers also posted a third-place finish in his event – the 3,000-meter steeplechase – with a time of 9:24.00.
Perron Jones placed in the top 10 in the 100 and 200 meters. Jones took fifth in a time of 10.77 in the 100-meter dash and clocked a time of 21.65 for sixth place in the 200 meters.
The foursome of Ama Larbi, Jamilah Middlebrooks, Donjhae Jones and Christina Pensock placed third in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:50.65.
Georgia Tech returns to action April 5-6 at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.
