ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia Tech’s Christy Striplin and Noelle Hickey’s exciting run through the doubles draw at the 2008 ITA South Region Championships came to an end Monday at the University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The Yellow Jacket duo dropped the doubles draw final, 8-0, to No. 3 seed Marrit Boonstra and Megan Alexander of Florida. Striplin and Hickey, the tournament’s No. 4 seed, reached the final’s by outlasting Miami’s Bianca Eichkorn and Michaela Kissell, 9-8 (10), in Sunday evening’s semifinal.
“We are disappointed about today’s results but it can’t take away from Christy and Noelle’s performance this weekend,” head coach Bryan Shelton said. “There were a lot of positives that came from this weekend. I am proud of their effort to be here on the final day of the tournament.”
Georgia Tech’s women’s tennis team will take next weekend off as they prepare for the ITA National Indoor Championships and the UNC Invitational. The National Indoor Championships get underway on Thursday, Nov. 6, while the UNC Invitational begins on Friday, Nov. 7. Both tournaments will conclude on Sunday, Nov. 9.
